SuperCJ began life as a 1981 CJ5. I purchased it new in May 1981. It was the lowly price leader on the lot designed to draw in the crowds with a cheap price. Sporting no radio, no top, no doors, no back seat, and no spare tire, it looked like it needed someone to take it home. That year, Super CJ ran the Rubicon on 31″ BFGs and a 2″ shackle lift, with no other modifications. Since that trip, it has evolved into a dovetailed, back-halved buggy with little resemblance to the factory rig. When people ask if it is street legal, my standard response is, “Well, it’s got a plate.”
