Our Non-TDS Run for 2006 actually happened the weekend after the big TDS event. Unusual, but then again, maybe not for us. It was a cold, rainy weekend with snow levels at their lowest in years. The view from Millionaire Mesa displayed snow in the northern mountains that we had never seen before.
Our event began Friday night with the now infamous “Chocolate Cake Party” in Skip and Joanie’s motorhome. More than a few were carried off to bed that night.
Saturday’s wheeling consisted of plowing our way through rain soaked goop. The lower canyons were like playing on a motorized slip and slide. By the end of the day, there was as much mud inside the rigs as outside.
Great fun, however, as Andy blazed a new canyon and ended up flopping on his side. Most of us stood as few inches taller in our mud caked shoes as the winch pulled Andy’s YJ back on all fours. Just as the winching was completed, the rain let up (typical). Before long, we exited the canyons at the microwave tower and headed back to the motorhomes for some dry clothes and R&R. Another great trip on the Mesa.
