Our New Years Run at Millionaire Mesa was another perfect trip with outstanding weather (spelled N-O W-I-N-D) and great four wheeling. Fresh from two days on the Mojave Road, Steve & Mary and Greg & Pam were already on the Mesa when we arrived Thursday evening. We parked the Champagne Train behind Ed & Jeni and started the New Years Eve festivities. A lot of Christmas trees were going up in flames that night, and Steve & Mary donated their tree to our fire – wow! Those of us that missed midnight were greeted by the sounds of a great fireworks show put on by the Inland Empire 4 Wheelrs who camped near us on the Mesa.
On New Years morning, Mike & Eva, Jason, and Ron & Cathy arrived and the wheeling began. We dropped down into the canyons through a rocky ravine just south of Impossible Hill. Greg & Pam were wheeling their FJ Cruiser, the vehicle that took them through the Mojave Road. While they bypassed many of the technical obstacles, they hung right with us and had a great time.
While we were wheeling on New Years Day, Lawana, Jeni, Mary, and Shannon went to the Anza-Borrego Ranger Station and learned a lot about the history of the area. This prompted our group to visit the Calcite Mine on Saturday. This was a very enjoyable diversion from our usual bill of fare.
After the Calcite Mine, the wheeling commenced again with Ed, Jason , & Tom blazing a number of new canyons. Sunday morning found us heading for home and planning another year of wheeling.
Attendees: Steve, Mary, Connor, & Shannon, Greg & Pam, Ed & Jeni, Jason, Mike & Eva, Tom & Lawana, and Ron, Cathy, Jonathon, & Kaylee.
